Workshop "Smart ideas for smart people. Our vision of Alumni Association" on January 11th, 2018:
Eugen will offer this workshop with the purpose to collect ideas and bring
students and the Alumni Association closer together.
The Alumni Association serves as a medium to support its members along
the way of their careers. Anyone who is interested in the Alumni Association
and wants to contribute to its steady success, please join Eugen.

Course: "Scientific Work" on January 16th and 23rd, 2018:
Karl Hofmann will offer a course about how to work scientifically.

Aim of the course:
The contents are divided into three main parts.
In a first part rather formal rules will be disscused, such as how to structure a seminar paper, how to
cite correctly, and other rules that have to be respected when working scientifically.
A second part will then contain strategies of how the writing process can be planned and conducted successfully.
The third part focuses on the preparation of the literature in form of a literature review.
Especially the handling of literature databases from the library and other providers will be discussed, as well as
the use of particular search engines.

The course is free of charge for members of the association. Non-members are welcome too, but have to pay
an amount of 10 Euros.
Course: "An introduction to programming in MATALB":
Aria Ardalan (PhD student of the Chair of Public Economics) will hold a basic course
in programming with MATLAB.

Aim of the course:
This is an introductory course into programming with matlab with a focus on economics. By participating you will learn matlab from scratch.
The course will provide you the necessary basic skills that you will need in the 2nd semester where you will set up and simulate either theoretic
economic models or conduct empirical analysis, such as simple and multiple regression analysis. You should be familiar with basic matric algebra
and if not refresh that for the course.

Non-members are welcome too, but will have to donate a small amount of 10 Euros to the EAAS e.V. once.
MATLAB license
For participating, you should install MATLAB R2016b (newest version) and bring your laptop to the class. As a student you get student license for
free from the university. You have to be connected to the university network (directly via WLAN or indirectly via VPN) and then go to
the homepage of the ZIMT Uni Siegen and download the matlab file and license key. In case of questions regarding the installation of matlab
ask the ZIMT Benutzerservice of the Uni that is in the Hölderlin building, room H-D-2203.
If you don't have a laptop, please register anyway. You can lend a laptop from the ZIMT Benutzerservice and we will also try to find other solutions!
LaTeX course:
Thorsten Foltz offers a course in LaTeX to the members of the association.

Aim of the course:
The course aims at providing you the most important basics that you need to prepare either seminar papers or presentations with LaTeX.
Since LaTeX will be the basic tool with which you should write your papers and presentations during the MEPS studies, it is highly
recommended and very practical for you to participate at the course.
